    Objective:

The STEM acronym stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.  All of these academic disciplines rely heavily on each other and are highly integrated in the professional and academic world.

This course is intended to integrate the STEM fields through project-based learning.  Students will be engaged in frequent hands-on activities geared towards combining each of the STEM disciplines.  Creativity and collaboration will be encouraged as students solve problems.  During the project phase, students will be presented with a challenge.  They will be required to draw upon their knowledge of the scientific method and STEM disciplines, collaborate with peers, and apply their own creative process to find solutions to the problem.  An emphasis will be placed on learning from failure and on how to best take that knowledge and make corrections that will create a better outcome.

    Homework:

All STEM activities will be done in the classroom.  Supplies will be provided for the students with an occasional call for donations from willing participants.  There might be occasional outside study time for an upcoming test.  The students will be provided with study materials to prepare.  Absent students can be caught up by their team members when they return.  Students who are absent for an extended period of time might be required to complete their STEM challenge on their own.

    Grading for STEM:

    Tests 40%

    Participation in STEM challenges 40%

    Daily Work  20%

    Total 100%
