Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to Kindergarten at Freeman Elementary. Kindergarten is an exciting and scary time for you! It is a time for exploring  new things and places and a time to learn and grow. 

This year we will be learning letters, sounds, numbers and learning how to read! We will learn about our community and explore the world around us. We will learn to cut, glue, draw, color and paint. We learn that mistakes are great, because it means that we’re trying. We will learn how to be good students in school and how to be friends with our classmates. We will learn what it means to be respectful, responsible, safe and ready to learn! Kindergarten is a time for exploring and we will be exploring many things and many types of materials. Don’t be surprised if your child comes home messier than they came to school! We do paint a lot and your child will probably get paint on their clothes. We will get messy!!!!  

I set very high expectations for each and every student in my class because I KNOW that every child can succeed. I expect my students to be the very best students at Freeman. Every day. In every way. I hope you will help by taking the time to talk to your child each day about what we did at school and what we learned. Talk to them about rules and how important it is to follow rules and work hard. Together, we can encourage your child’s success.

I ask that you read with your child every night and give them time to play! Practice sight words and numbers and counting. All of this combines to give your child a great education. And please make sure we get lots of sleep every night because we work hard and have lots of fun in our classroom and we need our rest!
