    Title Teacher K-5

What a joy it is to teach at Freeman Elementary School.  After 16 years as a classroom teacher in both 6th and 1st grade, I am now the Title teacher.  I work with students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  My focus is literacy education for children who need support as they learn to read and write.

I work in conjunction with the classroom teacher to address the Common Core English Language Standards.  Our literacy curriculum provides us with the foundation to teach these standards, but we also use interesting, popular literature as well as many forms of informational text to ignite interest and allow our students to get the practice they need to grow are a reader.  My daily lessons connect to the classroom lessons and include practice with phonemic awareness and phonics, vocabulary instruction and then reading with a focus on comprehension strategies.  Writing is an important part of reading instruction and my students write every day.

Please use me as a resource if you are concerned about your child or want tips for how to support their reading development.  I am at school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Please contact me at 291-4791 ex. 137 or aheinen@freemansd.org if you have questions or thoughts.
