    Welcome to Fourth Grade!

    Dear Freeman Families,

        I am so excited to welcome you to our fourth grade classroom!  I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your child and your family!  Fourth grade is a big leap in your child's education, and I feel privileged that I get to share it with your child! 

          It is hard to believe, but I am beginning my 30th year of teaching!  I am a Spokane native, and I graduated from Eastern Washington University.  I spent four years in California teaching and received my masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University. I completed my National Board Certification in 2017, and I just finished my principal adminstration certification in June of 2019. 

       I look forward to working with your child and with you this year!  Parent communication is very important to me. We are a team. The remainder  of this packet contains important information that you can refer to over the year if needed.

     Money

    On occasion it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school (lunch money, book orders, etc.).  Always send money in a sealed envelope with the following information written on it:

    1.     Your child’s first and last name.
    2.     The amount of money included.
    3.     The purpose for the money.
    4.     My name and room number.  (Ms. Edwards Room 134)

     With many students to keep track of and several reasons to collect money, this helps me out tremendously and reduces the likelihood of errors.  Also, if the envelope is left on the bus or playground, this information will help the money to be returned to the classroom.

     Birthdays

     Birthdays are special occasions for young children.  If your child wishes, he/she may bring treats for the class on the day of his/her birthday.  Please send a note a day or two in advance, so I can set some time aside for a class party. Summer birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the year.  

    Volunteers

    I love having volunteers in the classroom!  I will send a calendar home each month.  If you are able to volunteer, please sign up on the calendar and return it.

    80%-89% B

    70-79 C

    60-69% D
